I am pleased to provide you with this 2010 Convention Pre-Registration packet which signals the start of planning for our fall Convention in Albuquerque.
I ask that each church designate a single person (Rector, Vicar, or designee) to draw together and manage all administrative actions necessary for your church's delegates, alternates, spouses and guests to interact with the Diocese and the Convention Committee so that the 2010 Convention can be a constructive, unifying and defining event.
Please duplicate this package for each registrant (spouses and visitors included), collect all fees at your church, then return a single package of completed forms with a single check, to the Diocesan House.
The Very Rev. Jan Davey and the Northwest Deanery are our host this year at the Hilton Hotel, and they are prepared to assist you. Ms. Lois Phillips and Ms. Annie Danielsen are our co-chairs. Call upon them should you need any further assistance.
As I am sure you are aware, this year’s Annual Convention is being held in conjunction with the Ordination and Consecration of the Rev’d Dr. Michael L. Vono as the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande. Because time will be short, this Convention will be limited to diocesan business only. All reports will be presented in the Convention packet but only the Treasurer will make a presentation to the body. As soon as Convention adjourns on Friday morning, buses will be available to transport all clergy and delegates attending Convention to the Hyatt in downtown Albuquerque where the service will be held. A reception will follow the service at the Cathedral of St. John which is a short walk from the Hyatt. Buses will be available to transport delegates back to the Hilton from the Cathedral.
Some things I would draw your attention to at this early point in the pre-registration process:
- We have dispensed with the late registration fees, but I still urge you to start immediately to manage the process within your church, particularly in light of the slower pace of things during the summer.
- Please help us to control distribution of printed material on the floor of the Convention. Generally, only material provided in the on-site registration package will be permitted. If you feel you have an exception, please use the form included with this pre-registration package.
- Last minute delegate substitutions will be allowed. Forms will be provided during final on-site registration for Rectors and Vicars to certify changes. Note, however, that there can be no substitutions for Senior and Junior Wardens or Clergy.
- Advise participants from your church that accommodation reservations must be made directly between attendees and the Hilton Hotel.
